Osteopathic Manual Therapy

Osteopathy is a hands-on approach to manual therapy that considers the relationship between the body’s structure and its overall function. Rather than focusing on symptoms in isolation, the osteopathic practitioner takes a whole-body perspective, considering posture, movement patterns, history, and lifestyle to better understand what may be contributing to a person’s physical discomfort.

How Does Osteopathy Work?

Osteopathic practitioners use precise, hands-on manual techniques applied to muscles, joints, fascia, and soft tissues. Through careful palpation, a trained skill developed over years of study, the practitioner assesses the quality, mobility, and tension of tissues throughout the body.

Each session is entirely individualized. There is no standard protocol; the approach is adapted to the specific needs of each person at each visit.

What Can Osteopathy Help With?

People seek osteopathic care for a wide range of physical concerns, including:
  • Back, neck, and shoulder discomfort
  • Headaches and jaw tension
  • Hip, knee, and joint stiffness
  • Post-injury recovery support
  • Postural discomfort related to desk work or repetitive physical demands
  • General muscle tension and restricted movement

Do I Need To Undress?

No. Osteopathic sessions are conducted fully clothed. Wearing comfortable, loose-fitting clothing allows for easier movement during assessment and hands-on care.

Is Osteopathy Covered By Insurance?

OHIP does not cover osteopathic treatments. However, many extended health benefit plans offer partial or full coverage. Contact your insurance provider or human resources department to confirm your coverage.

Important Note
